Thesis Statement:

Social networking sites and other web 2.0 entertainments increase compulsive behavior in their users

and negatively impact the quality of their face-to face human relationships.

Research Questions?

1. How does internet dating compare to face to face human contact?
2. What if any positive impact has came out of online dating and social networking sites?
3. To what extent have online dating contributed to lon-term relationships?
4. How are users of these sites screened for authenticity of their profiles?

Online relationships and dating through social networking and dating websites are really what you make it. It is an individual process for anyone; no two people may have the same outcome when looking for that special someone online. Through my research and reading I find that you are your own expert in this new dating game. Although, there’s a lot of advice out there and it can be very useful especially for those who are naive and think that everyone on these sites are on the up and up. There are definitely pros and cons to this new experience from marriage proposals to predators. This can be a great tool before actually having a face to face interaction, it just really takes away from the meeting at grocery stores and things like that but after researching I think it's a positive tool. and with the amount of users on these sites today it's definitely a compulsive behavior that who says is a bad thing? The most important aspect of online dating is time; time is on your side, you must be patient. If you don’t have patience you can find yourself in a bad situation. I haven’t found any real experts in this subject, it’s all up to you either you meet your soul mate or you don’t but don’t settle for the very first one that sounds good, take your time email a little chat a lot, my advice is if you get to that point to meet someone make sure it’s in a public place like a restaurant, and do that numerous times before you actually feel the need to go further. And, remember your only expert is u.

This is another You tube Video I found helpful in ranking some of the top dating sites .

During the research process of my topic; after reshaping my thesis statement numerous times the best strategy is pulling out keywords. I researched different databases and obtained more specific information using these keywords. After using these various databases I found that the database Academic Search Complete provided me more specific articles on my topic, it is very important to approach your subject at different angles. And the best way to do this is by using more advanced search techniques like the Boolean technique. As seen above i watched many videos from useres on You tube that document there tips on online dating.

This article covers how social media is playing apart when it comes to relationships. Mostly focusing on Facebook and issues pertaining to dating, flirting and how it can cause breakups. The surveys and statistical findings were produced by a market research firm named Lab 42. This public article found in the blogs section of the Huff Tech an online internet newspaper is intended for people of all ages as an informative dialogue on social media and relationships and how “technology is changing the way we relate romantically to one another.”

This was another study developed to query the minds of users of social media who choose to develop online relationships through this new technology of online dating. The first author had developed this as a thesis; he is a doctoral student while the second author is a professor at Ohio University. This 18 page article goes though the steps and into a deeper psychology of online relationships. It also intensely breaks down their thesis and their methods, procedures, participants and results of their finding throughout the research of online relationships which in turn helped me significantly in understanding how profound of a subject that I selected.

This is an article out of Newsweek Magazine. It covers another concept of online relationships in this new age of science and technology. It begins by discussing a couple who met on Jdate.com a Jewish online dating site. It also discusses the pros and cons of this new dating game. There are also lists of links of online dating websites that you can venture into and check out for yourself. Since the authors are from different areas; one from Washington, one from Beijing and it doesn’t state where the first author is from…I take it that they are probably not experts in this area but have done quite a bit of research to produce this commentary. The good thing is everyone has their own different attitude toward online dating, meeting and having sexual relationships with men/women they meet online.
